Cobra Kayaks Press Release
New Marauder- Performance Fishing Boat
April 2010:
After more than a year and a half in development, with continual feedback from the kayak fishing community, Cobra Kayaks are proud to present the ‘new Marauder’. Historically, the Marauder has been one of Cobra Kayaks most popular performance fishing kayaks. At 4.3 metres (14’1”) long and 780 mm (31”) wide, and 24 kgs (52 lbs) and more than 200kgs (470 lbs) capacity the Marauder has been one of Cobra’s best selling kayaks, with an ideal combination of length and beam for good hull speed, and good stability. The hull shape remains the same with features such as ample rocker, giving the Marauder nice maneuverability, and with the sweeping bow shape, the boat is dry and seaworthy in even the roughest conditions.
Cobra has taken the Marauder’s best features and with feedback from ‘fishos’ from around the world, has made some major changes to the deck configuration- creating the ideal performance fishing kayak.
The Marauder is now fitted with an optional rudder system for better performance on long distance paddles- giving the new Marauder even better maneuverability.
A transducer mount has been incorporated in one of the scuppers, for ease in installing your choice of fish finder/GPS unit.
The deck has been reconfigured with a new sealed centre hatch, complete with a bung so that it can be used as a live well if desired. But, soft baiters will love this feature for it’s mega- convenient storage, and they can feel in large seas (as the storage is sealed from the interior of the boat) there is no chance of flooding the boat if water comes aboard. The new storage area measures approximately 210 x 470 x 170 (deep) mm. 8 x 18.5 x 7 “.

Cobra has created a unique hatch cover- with simple and easy to secure bungy loop tie downs, to secure the cover on the well. A plastic bait board lies over the cover, with a convenient recess for storing a fishing knife or icky tool.
Aft of the well, there is ample room for a small rectangular hatch or a 10” round hatch, to maximize storage in the cockpit area. The bow area can take the Cobra ‘A’ hatch to maximize storage.
The foot wells are wider than on the old Marauder- with more than 50mm (2”) extra clearance on each side. Fishermen with large feet or booties can now comfortably fit in the wider foot wells. The OZO rudder controls are easy to adjust and fit in special recesses within the foot well.
The Marauder can take 4 flush mount rod holders, 2 aft of the seat and 2 forward of the knees. Cobra is also installing the rail blazer rod mount standard on the Marauder Fishing package.
“We feel that we have refined the Marauder so that we now have one of the best performing, best set up fishing kayaks on the water today,” said Ted Dixon Sales and Marketing Director.

Pro Sport boat test:
We are very pleased to have unveiled at the Big Boys Toy Show in Auckland, our latest addition to the range of RIB -our Pro Sport 5.3 Pro Jet-
The Pro Sport 5.3 hull is modified to accept the (GM) Vortec 1.6 litre 4 stroke motor- completely marinized by Coggan & Williams- coupled to their jet unit. The Vortec produces about 95 HP at 5500 RPM and the Pro Jet did not disappoint at the boat tests.
We tested the boat several times- the last test was out of Half moon Bay. We ran with three adults- the seas were wind chopped with less than a metre wind chop. The Vortec sounds great- with the muffler system she sounds almost V8 ‘throaty’.
The boat leaps onto the plane at the first urging of the throttle- she will be ideal for skiers, wake boarders, and other tow behind toys. With three passengers the boat the top speed was a respectable 35mph. The big tubes keep the boat dry- and the deep vee hull forward offers a nice cut through the chop. Like most jet boats- she is highly manoeuvrable- (ask Bevan- after his spill) and of course can operate in a few inches of water. The jet has a shell strainer filter for very shallow operation. As the Vortec is marinized and fresh water cooled- after the test we simply plugged in the fresh water hose and idled the boat to flush her of any corrosive salt water.
The boat is ideal for family fun, with all the advantages of a Rigid Inflatable Boat- stability, high power to weight ratio, easy to tow, easy to launch- she has the many advantages of a jet boat- safety due to the lack of a propeller- more manoeuvrable, and just a blast to run. A jet boat is ideal as a super yacht tender- with its in board motor offering easy maintenance and access-
The Pro Sport is available in 4.7 or 5.3 lengths- the beam is 2.1 m. over-all. The boat as tested retails for $44,500 iincluding boat/motor and trailer-
